In addition to its business litigation practice, the firm, through Mr. Carnes, has an active family law practice. In fact, one of the reasons Mr. Carnes opened his own firm in early 2002, was to be able to work with more clients who are individuals in helping them to resolve their personal matters. This has manifested itself in the growing of the firm's family law practice.

The firm's family law practice is focused on contested matters - - it does not take a trial lawyer to handle an uncontested divorce. That being said, there is nothing more traumatic to a family, particularly to children, than an explosive trial. Mr. Carnes has the negotiation skills necessary to ensure that only the cases that need to be tried are tried.

Mr. Carnes is experienced in all area of family law, including divorce and subsequent modifications in the relationship between the divorced parents and their children. Mr. Carnes has particular experience in assisting parents accused of physically or sexually abusing one of their own children -- a charge that is often made to advance one parent's position to the detriment of the other in an ongoing tug-of-war between divorced parents. For those caught in what can be a very serious web, Mr. Carnes brings a depth of experience and understanding of the underlying dynamics that is shared by few practitioners.
